Veterans and Mesothelioma - Are You Affected?
As fellow veterans, we understand the values of commitment and service to our country. We honor and respect the sacrifice many have given to be part of this elite population of men and women. For decades, individuals from every branch of the military have defended our flag during times of war and peace and dedicated their lives to service. While the commitment to giving back exists even after active duty ends, many veterans today are facing a new battle.
In the decades since World War II, thousands of veterans and military personnel have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. Unbeknownst to many servicemen, asbestos was used in all branches of the military for decades before, during and after wartime. During World War II alone, it is estimated that nearly 4.3 million Americans worked on ships and in shipyards. Because of the daily tasks servicemen were required to perform, many were unwittingly exposed to asbestos and the potential for developing cancer and other diseases. In recent studies performed on men suffering from mesothelioma, the results demonstrated that the majority had a history of occupational asbestos exposure.
